in the central part of Japan. Tokoname has the following features:

Where is Tokoname?
In February 2005,the Central Japan International Airport (CENTRAIR) opened
offshore from Tokoname City, as the third international hub airport in Japan.
Tokoname City has since served as Japan's gateway to the world: a transportation
hub for the exchange of people, goods and information.

The city government is actively promoting the development of comfortable residential
areas, through the Land Readjustment Project and the New Town Project; inviting
businesses to Central Japan Airport City, which is adjacent to CENTRAIR; and
encouraging tourism expansion.
Comfortable residential areas
One of Tokoname City's main industries is pottery, which here has a history of nearly
1000 years. Tokoname ware is one of the six traditional potteries of Japan, together
with Seto, Shigaraki, Echizen, Tamba and Bizen. This pottery tradition and its culture
can be sensed everywhere around Tokoname, as for example in the sight of kiln
chimneys.

The climate of Tokoname is mild. The City has a long coastline facing Ise Bay, and is
famous for the cultivation of Nori (a type of seaweed) and other fishery products. Sea
bathing and marine sports are also very popular. The hilly areas are known for rice
growing and other types of agriculture.
