Following the opening of CENTRAIR, many housing complexes were built for airport
personnel and their families, increasing the population of Tokoname. The Central
Airport City, adjoining CENTRAIR, and central parts of Tokoname are welcoming an
increasing number of businesses.
The inland part of Tokoname has three industrial complexes. Farmers grow their
products in the adjusted agricultural area. In the coastal areas, fisheries are abundant
with products from Ise Bay.

Major industries and businesses
○Industry
In addition to pottery, which has been the main industry of Tokoname, the proportion
of steel and machinery industries is increasing. As for Tokoname ware, the mainstay of
all the ceramic industry in Tokoname, new activities have started recently, including
the opening of pottery shops in CENTRAIR. We hope that Tokoname ware will become
popular around the world in the future.

○Commerce
Shopping arcades around Japan are on the decline, due to the closing and departure
of shops. However, the central shopping arcade of Tokoname, in combination with the
Pottery Path, is attracting new tourists. Around Meitetsu Tokoname Station and
across from Central Japan Airport City, more commercial facilities are being
constructed, as a result of the increase in population flow.

In Tokoname City, an extensive area of prime agricultural land was developed by the
Land Improvement Project, which began in 1972. Rice growing, field agriculture and
livestock production are popular in the northern part, while the southern area is
known for the cultivation of figs and kiwi fruit.
